Unaffected by the drag of continental shelf, the Fiji-waves rise out of depths of 3000 meters, packed with far more power than their continental counterparts in Australia or California. Launching themselves as grinding barrels, Fiji has some of the worlds' most challenging waves. With more than 800 islands, 100 of which are uninhabited the sport is now developing in a true frontier environment.
The Sand Dunes outside of Sigatoka is Fiji's only beach break. Here at the mouth of the Sigatoka River, sandbars cause the waves to break as well formed peaks though on a large swell long walls are seen left and right. It works best on a low tide and early, before the wind pops up. This is a favorite of many locals and attracts many visitors. It is located 1 hour from Nadi. First photo was taken in the backyard of a hostel.
Jason Prier caught some dinner on the way to the Island(3)
1.The locals were impressed by my hair. 2. Sunsets are heavily.

Heading west along Queens Highway, Pacific Harbor is the jump off point
for Beqa and
Yanuca Islands, which are the locations of two Surf Camps . Five miles further to sea and
you come upon the Frigate Pass surf spot where one of the best waves in Fiji is to be had.
Here a long left hand wave wraps around the reef with an intense inside section. A very
powerful wave, it is comprised of two long sections. The inside portion is the shallowest
with the wave throwing out into a very thick barrel. It is very much a Big Country
location, with what is often a big, powerful break along way from land. The setting is a
reef, whose margin drops abruptly into 2000 meters depth.
The water is crystal clear, making for a visually unnerving passage through that inside
section with the reef being seen to speed beneath you. Fortunately only appearing much
shallower than it really is.

Leaving at 05.30 to the outside reef from the little Island of the coast
The waves were very nice and I was loving it although I have been unlucky with my boards. They kept on breaking in the heavy waves of Fiji.
